Certified dysplasia consultation
At our certified dysplasia clinic, we specialise in the detection of cellular changes (dysplasia). The aim is to prevent the development of cancer through the early diagnosis of dysplasia. In some cases, these cellular changes may resolve on their own, whilst in others they may persist. If dysplasia is present over a prolonged period, the risk of cancer increases.
The consultation or examination is similar to a standard gynaecological examination, but is somewhat more detailed and thorough. During the procedure, the cervix is examined for cellular changes using a magnifying instrument called a colposcope. Acetic acid, for example, is used to make these changes visible. In addition, we usually take a sample during the examination and analyse it further.
Once the results of the examination are available, the next steps are decided in consultation with the patient. Depending on the findings, further check-ups or surgery may be recommended.
